With the sunsetting of QuickBooks 2018 desktop edition on May 31, 2021, several of our clients received an alarming message from QuickBooks notifying them that their software was being discontinued. This message was a bit misleading, and we want to bring some clarity to the situation.
Effective May 31, Intuit discontinued support for QuickBooks 2018 desktop edition as well as any online features, like payments and intuit payroll processing, if you were using them. Businesses with QuickBooks 2018 desktop edition installed on their machines will otherwise find the application is still operable just no longer supported by Intuit and therefore potentially subject to security or stability issues.
We recommend that users of QuickBooks 2018, or any prior version, make a backup of their current file and upgrade to QuickBooks 2021 to take advantage of the most up to date features and product support. Which version of QuickBooks software to choose largely depends upon the features you need and the number of users that are using the product.
Before you download whichever version Intuit is marketing to your organization, we encourage clients to contact us for a review of their requirements so that we may help them select the version and features best suited to their business operations.
Further, while Intuit is actively encouraging users to purchase an annual license of their product, SJG recognizes that a perpetual license is still available and is often the more fiscally responsible purchase and can help you locate options for purchasing these one-time fee products.
